Another, yet different, cupcake cake

My baby sister has yet to grow out of her cupcake obsession. This is the 3rd year I have done a cupcake cake but instead of the large cupcake I normally do, I took a different route. I wasn't totally satisfied but when she said "this is the best on yet", I considered it a success. Oh, and she turned 18 but as you can see, she's basically still a kid. Love ya Stacy and happy birthday!

Crochet Cake

My sister in-law does a lot of crochet work and she is amazing! She's made a ton of these cute flowers that you can put on hats and headbands or whatever (hence the flowers). Here is her etsy link http://www.etsy.com/shop/forumyonly1. She also makes hats, skirts, toys, and probably whatever else you can think of. I wish I had had something to roll the fondant on to make it have some sort of crochet pattern. That would have been cool. Can you tell it's a skirt on top? My kids thought it was a volcano.

Valentine Surprise

This was my first random order. I have only done cakes and things for family, friends, and friends of friends. This gal actually googled for a bakery in Queen Creek and my blog came up on her search engine. She ordered these for her boyfriend for heart day. These are ALL about taste. She wanted the white cake with cream cheese filling, frosted and then the cookie. The other half is chocolate filled with ganache, frosted and then topped with candy. I was so angry at myself for not making extra because they looked dang good. I think I'm actually really enjoying making cupcakes. There's something about piping the icing on the top and decorating it that just make me super happy.

Carnival Bridal Shower

This cake is a slight "prequel" to the wedding cake I get to do in March. Fun huh? I was really nervous with this one in the beginning stages because it was looking too much like a children's cake. By the time it was finished, it was a lot better but still not exactly what I thought it should look like. Then finally the lightbulb in my head came on "it needs some pearl action!". Made ALL the difference (at least I thought so). To my fellow "caker's", if you do not have an air compressor, get one! I don't know what I'd do without it. I am so excited to do the wedding cake. It's going to be awesome!

A cake made from the UK!

I got the best email EVER the other night. A gal all the way from the UK thanked me for a motorcycle cake I had done (http://cassyscakes.blogspot.com/2010/01/bmw-motorcycle-cake.html). She is a nurse by trade and has done cakes for her kids and only attempted this one for her husband when she found the idea. Since then, she's had a friend call to make a cake and so begins her snowball affect of cake decorating. :) I just thought it was a really cool story and that she did such a great job on her cake that I just had to share. I am grateful I took that scary leap for myself and started making cakes. I have met so many awesome people (officially from around the world).

Mini Dino Cake

This cake was actually a pretty tall order. This was for a two year old who was allergic to animal fat and yellow die. So the cake and frosting inside had to be vegan (nothing I do or have done is vegan-not even my salads :)). And then the yellow die meant I couldn't use green, orange, etc. This cake could have really used some green but for a toddler, he probably didn't notice. I wanted to make a dinosaur that stood on 4 legs but my husband said boys like T-rex. So this was my attempt at it. I decided I really need to use modeling chocolate but turns out, that stuff is pricey. I've been watching cake boss lately and envy at what amazing work comes out of his shop. I don't like how he yells all the time but I would love to work for him for a week.
