Giant Cupcake

Here it is with the candle, cute huh?
My baby sister turns 16 today-very hard to believe! She loves many things and one of those things happens to be cupcakes so how appropriate to do a giant cupcake for her birthday. It was also very convenient for me as this is a very simple cake and I have been making cakes up the wah-zoo this month. I was also able to use leftover material which made it even easier-yeah! We're going to put a giant birthday candle on top for when we sing to her tonight. I will post a picture of it later because it's pretty dang cool. I love you sis and congrats on the big one-six!

Bridal Shower Cake

I have been looking forward to this cake for weeks! When I think I've learned a lot on one cake and don't think I could learn much more, I do. I think I discovered more ways to improve with this cake than any other I have done so far. This order was to include a two-tiered square cake with some of the same features as my last baby shower cake but using the colors lavender and plum and it needed to be more elegant than "cutesy." Definitely a different kind of cake than I'm used to. I had a blast and like I said, learned a ton. I really appreciate the practice. I still have a ways to go but I'm getting there. :)

Stars

So one might think this cake was for a child...it was actually for my mom. I didn't mean for it to turn out so childlike but she loves this color combo and loves stars. I have been wanting to use some of the bright green (it's me fave) for a while now. I wish I didn't have so many distractions during this cake so I could have done a little cleaner of a job but she still loved it. I love you so much mom and I hope you have a great birthday!

It's Game Time!

Yeah for the Cardinals! For this momentous occasion, I made some football cookies and a cake...
I have an order for a square cake this month and I haven't done one yet-I didn't even have square pans! I thought what a perfect opportunity to get some practice in. I've been told that square cakes are more difficult than circle and that theory proved true but I did okay for a first-timer. :) Go Cardinals!

Whew!

What a night! So around 7:30pm, my husband asks if I could make a cake for a coworker whose last night is tonight. He has to leave at 9:30pm which gives me 2 hours to bake and decorate a cake and also put 3 toddler's to bed (I'm babysitting my nephew for the night). I was so happy to pull this off and have enough fondant for it (I'm running really low). The picture isn't that great because it's dark and the flash ruins it but here it is. I sort of stole the idea from a book since I didn't have time to really think of one but I think it came together okay.

Non-Fondant Hawaiian Cake

So my dad didn't want a "fondu" cake which was a bummer since I would have loved to do a Hawaiian fondant cake. Oh well, butter cream is cheaper and easier but you can only do so much so I made a cute cake topper to "cute'n" it up a bit. I got into sculpting clay when I was a teenager and thought it would be cool to include it with my cakes. For instance, I think I could do some wedding ones. We'll see. Happy birthday pops!

Construction Cake

My nephew turned 1 and his parents requested a construction type cake and this is what I came up with. I used his initials in place of the CAT symbol and I thought it turned out pretty good. It was a fun cake to make.

This was for my sons birthday. He's obsessed with motorcycles. The cake matches the blue and orange themed motorcycle party supplies I found. I did a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling and it tasted great! I also learned from my previous cake to refrigerate the cake if it's done in advance and that prevented any collapsing. Each cake gets easier and quicker to do and I notice improvement each time. This one was a lot of fun and my son loved it!

Baby Shower

This cake was for a baby shower with a brown and pink color scheme. I loved doing the bow! Anyway, I had a completely different idea for this cake for weeks and as I covered it, I changed my mind. The flowers on top are supposed to match the nursery the mom had done. I had a few mess up spots but it still turned out okay I think.
